A father and his eight-year-old daughter were killed in North Reading, Massachusetts, when their car was struck from behind while stopped at a red light, according to police. The case has prompted grief from their family and led to serious criminal charges against the other driver, who is accused of driving while intoxicated and speeding.

Samir Naili, 35, and Kashmera Naili died at the scene after their Honda CR-V was allegedly hit by a white Acura MDX travelling about 100mph and caught fire. Matthew Sweeney, 21, faces five charges, including two counts of motor vehicle homicide while drunk and speeding; he has not entered a plea and bail was set at $250,000. His lawyer cited an ongoing mental illness and reported blackouts, while the victims’ relatives remembered the close father-daughter relationship.
