On the second day of a preliminary hearing in Utah, a court heard that Tyler Robinson, 23, the man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in September 2025, allegedly spent hours on the campus before the attack — strolling around, buying a meal at Chick-fil-A and interacting with staff from Kirk's Turning Point USA organisation. New surveillance footage was presented that prosecutors say shows Robinson repeatedly on campus, making his way onto a rooftop and later fleeing. The hearing matters because it will determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to a full trial.

Lead investigator David Hull testified that the suspect returned about 90 minutes before the shooting in different clothes and walking with a limp, climbed onto the Losee Building roof, and was later seen running off after the fatal shot; a rifle was recovered nearby. Robinson allegedly returned hours later and briefly spoke with an officer during the manhunt. His defence team, led by Kathy Nester, disputed much of the evidence, noting that another weapon was found on campus, no shell casings were recovered at the suspected "sniper pad", and some witnesses described a different or bald suspect. Prosecutors also presented DNA evidence matching Robinson, while the defence questioned testing protocols. Robinson has not entered a plea, and Judge Graf will decide only whether the case should go to trial.
