‘New Girl’ Reunion Is Not Happening: ‘There Are No Scripts,’ Says Creator Liz Meriwether

Variety · 5 hours ago

“New Girl” creator Liz Meriwether has said there are no reunion scripts and no current plans to revive the sitcom, contradicting cast member Max Greenfield’s recent suggestion that a project was under way. The exchange appears to be a running joke between Meriwether and the cast, rather than evidence of a formal reboot, though it has fuelled fan interest in the series returning.

Greenfield, who played Schmidt, said in July that he had seen “amazing” reunion scripts, but later clarified that the cast will instead gather at Los Angeles’s Chrysalis Butterfly Ball on 10 October. The seven-season Fox comedy ran from 2011 to 2018, and its cast will receive the Rising Phoenix Award; Meriwether is meanwhile adapting Britney Spears’s memoir *The Woman in Me* into a film.

  • No “New Girl” reunion is currently planned.
  • Cast jokes sparked speculation about scripts.
  • The cast will reunite for an October charity gala.
