A New Hampshire man is accused of stealing a rescue truck while firefighters were tackling a blaze at his home, then endangering crews and damaging emergency equipment as he fled. The incident matters because firefighters working at an active fire were reportedly narrowly missed, although no one was physically injured.

Nestor Roman II, 30, of Dalton, allegedly took Whitefield Fire & Rescue’s F550 truck shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, crashed into a fire engine and pickup, and drove over water lines. Police said the vehicle later crashed several miles away, where Roman was arrested; he faces felony charges including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, burglary and theft. The house was destroyed, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
