Jurassic World Rebirth's planned sequel has been put on hold after director Gareth Edwards left the project, reportedly due to creative differences. Edwards had himself replaced David Leitch, who departed before filming began, meaning the franchise has now lost two directors in a row before production could start, forcing another search for someone to take the reins.

Rebirth, which followed a team collecting dinosaur DNA from a secret InGen facility housing the company's failed experiments, was a box-office success last summer and quickly led to a sequel being greenlit. Stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali are still expected to return, and David Koepp, who wrote Rebirth as well as the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World, remains attached as screenwriter while a new director is sought.
