## Key points

- More Mandelson appointment files are expected by Christmas.
- Police have allowed publication of previously withheld documents.
- MPs will redact information that could affect security or international relations.

## Summary

The Government expects to publish further files about Lord Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador by Christmas, after the Metropolitan Police agreed to lift a hold on documents linked to its investigation. The release could shed more light on the appointment and the security concerns raised during vetting, though it is not yet clear what the files contain.

Senior civil servant Cat Little told MPs the documents will be reviewed by a security committee, which will remove material that could harm national security or international relations. Earlier releases in March and June revealed officials’ concerns about Mandelson’s vetting and discussions with ministers; separately, he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over alleged leaks to Jeffrey Epstein and released on bail.
