CBS's NCIS franchise is finally getting a New York-based instalment, with NCIS: New York set to premiere this autumn. The spin-off addresses what the article calls a long-standing gap for the long-running franchise, which has already branched into Los Angeles, New Orleans, Hawai'i, Sydney and, briefly, Europe, but had never given one of America's most iconic port cities its own series.

The show gives a permanent home to LL COOL J's Sam Hanna, previously of NCIS: Los Angeles, as he returns to his hometown after years away on covert assignments and forms a new team, including a "roguish" partner played by Scott Caan. Newly released images and a synopsis reveal Hanna investigating the death of a friend and Navy reservist, working alongside agents played by Jennifer Beals, Shane Harper, Jacqueline Byers and Devin Druid. Byron Ballasco takes the showrunner role, with LL COOL J and R. Scott Gemmill among the executive producers, ahead of the series joining the NCIS Tuesday night line-up on CBS within the next month.
