The New York Times has been sued in New York by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, who is representing shareholders alleging that the company’s board failed to properly oversee editorial standards. The action claims that perceived anti-Israel bias in Gaza war coverage has damaged the newspaper’s credibility and seeks access to internal records about editorial oversight.

The filing relies partly on an unnamed former employee who allegedly raised concerns about antisemitism and bias on at least 15 occasions from 2019 onwards. It cites subsequently corrected articles, while the Times rejects the allegations as meritless and politically motivated; the case follows the company’s refusal to provide records requested by Uthmeier and a recent defamation verdict that resulted in a reduced $4.75 million award against the newspaper.
