Kathleen Folbigg has described ending an 18-month relationship with a female prison inmate after learning that the woman had been convicted of child sexual abuse offences. Folbigg said the relationship developed amid the isolation and uncertainty of her 20 years in prison, while acknowledging that her choices would probably have been different outside incarceration.

Folbigg was released in June 2023 after an inquiry found reasonable doubt over her convictions for the deaths of her four children, following new scientific evidence. She recently married childhood friend Bob Muir in Newcastle and said she wants to focus on her future rather than continued public discussion of her time in prison; the couple are considering an overseas honeymoon.
