Jamie Lee Curtis has spoken about finally landing a multi-camera sitcom role in NBC's "Newlyweds", after decades of asking her agents for one. The Oscar-winning actress, who executive produces and recurs in the new comedy, said she had wanted to do a sitcom every year since her 1980s ABC series "Anything But Love", calling the multi-cam format her favourite kind of work despite finding success in single-camera shows like "New Girl" and "The Bear".

Curtis, 68, credited her breakthrough in the format to "Anything But Love", a pilot ABC initially passed on before reviving it after "A Fish Called Wanda" made her a star in 1988; the show ran four seasons. She said she "begged" her agents for another multi-cam project because she loves rehearsing and performing before a live audience, unlike single-camera comedy, which she likened to filming a silent, joyless movie. "Newlyweds", written and executive produced by Gail Lerner, stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly as a late-life couple who marry after a whirlwind courtship, with Curtis playing Daly's ex-wife; she also drew on her own 42-year marriage to Christopher Guest, whom she wed shortly after meeting, as inspiration for the show's premise.
