A pack of seven dogs escaped from a moving U-Haul van and attacked at least four people in a Charlotte, North Carolina neighbourhood on 27 August, leaving one woman hospitalised with severe lacerations. The incident, which occurred on Claiborne Woods Road, has alarmed local residents, several of whom intervened to help victims or fend off the animals themselves, while a sheriff's deputy who happened to be nearby was forced to shoot and kill one of the dogs after a taser failed to stop the attack.

Hayley Wright, 30, suffered the worst injuries and was taken to hospital, while three other residents, including neighbour Angela Johnson, were treated at the scene; Johnson required a rabies shot and five stitches after being bitten while trying to call for help. Surveillance footage from a nearby house captured several dogs tumbling out of the truck minutes before the attack, though police have not yet confirmed these were the same animals involved, nor identified the dogs' owner. The pit bull-type dogs, believed to be around a year old, were all eventually captured by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Animal Care and Control, who are investigating alongside the sheriff's office.
