## Key points

- Wyle says Murphy rebuffed his autograph request when he was about nine.
- He says the encounter made him quick to sign autographs for children.
- His daughter later gave him a mock Murphy autograph as a birthday gift.

## Summary

Noah Wyle says a childhood encounter with Eddie Murphy shaped how he treats young fans. Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, The Pitt star recalled asking Murphy for an autograph when he was about nine. Wyle said he told Murphy he enjoyed watching him on Saturday Night Live. Murphy asked why he was awake so late and, when Wyle repeated his request, told him to “fuck off, man”. This is Wyle’s account of the exchange; Murphy has not publicly responded to it.

Wyle said he now signs autographs readily, especially when a child asks. He also described how the story became a family joke: for his birthday, his daughter printed a photograph of Murphy and added a made-up dedication to her father, which Wyle said he keeps framed in his office. He shared the memory with Poehler in a light-hearted conversation, while making clear that the refusal had stayed with him.
