## Key points

- Nolan's "Odyssey" has passed $640 million worldwide at the box office
- IMAX screenings drove roughly 53% of total ticket sales
- Second-weekend drop of just 18% beat Nolan's previous best hold

## Summary

Christopher Nolan's screen adaptation of Homer's "Odyssey" has passed $640 million at the global box office, driven substantially by record-setting IMAX turnout. The R-rated, near three-hour epic starring Matt Damon as Odysseus has proven unexpectedly resilient in cinemas, with premium large-format showings accounting for roughly 53% of takings, underlining how much of the film's commercial success owes to audiences seeking out the biggest possible screen experience.

The film reached $639.6 million within its first two weekends, with IMAX alone contributing an estimated $140 million of that total. Its second-weekend takings of $215.3 million marked only an 18% drop from its opening — the strongest second-weekend hold of any Nolan film to date, surpassing even "The Dark Knight" — indicating that strong word-of-mouth sustained turnout as the film's overall total climbed past the $640 million mark.
