Norris expects challenge after back-to-back poles
Lando Norris has taken pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort but expects a closer contest for victory than in Hungary, where he won comfortably before Formula 1’s summer break. His caution follows Saturday’s sprint, in which George Russell won decisively while Norris’s pace faded and Charles Leclerc passed him late on.
Norris’s pole lap relied on McLaren’s strength through Zandvoort’s fast middle sector, where he was 0.28 seconds quicker than Russell, despite being slower in the first and final sectors. He said tyre overheating in high-speed corners could limit that advantage over a race distance, while Russell noted that pole is especially valuable at a circuit where overtaking is difficult.
- Norris starts on pole but expects a difficult race.
- Tyre overheating could reduce McLaren’s race advantage.
