Noskova holds off extraordinary Muchova fightback to win Wimbledon
Czech player Linda Noskova won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2026, beating her friend and compatriot Karolina Muchova in a dramatic all-Czech final. The 21-year-old appeared to be cruising to a routine victory before a nerve-shredding collapse, and her ability to recover mentally to eventually seal the win marked a significant career breakthrough in the tournament's first final between two Czech players.
Noskova led 6-2 5-2 but then squandered five championship points as 10th seed Muchova won five games in a row to take the second set 7-5. The ninth seed regrouped in the decider, serving out for the title an hour after her first attempt to win 6-2 5-7 6-3. In an emotional on-court speech before the 15,000-strong Centre Court crowd, Noskova paid tribute to her mother, Ivana, who died on the eve of Wimbledon two years earlier, and to 2023 French Open runner-up Muchova, her Paris 2024 Olympics doubles partner.
