An Ipsos poll released at the start of the Liberal Democrats' annual conference reveals Ed Davey is unpopular even amongst his own supporters, facing the lowest satisfaction ratings of any major party leader amongst their membership. The findings highlight a significant challenge for the Lib Dems as they struggle to establish relevance in the current political landscape, with party MP Roz Savage publicly warning that the party is "struggling for relevance."

The poll found that just 53 per cent of Liberal Democrat voters are satisfied with Sir Ed, giving him a net satisfaction rating of +39, compared to Andy Burnham's +61 amongst Labour supporters, Kemi Badenoch's +46 amongst Conservative voters, and substantially higher ratings for Reform UK and Green Party leaders. Only half of those who voted Liberal Democrat in 2024 would do so again in 2026, with 23 per cent defecting leftward and 15 per cent rightward. The party currently polls at 9 per cent nationally, trailing the Greens (12%), Conservatives (18%), Reform UK (25%) and Labour (28%). Whilst 35 per cent of Britons view Sir Ed as honest and 31 per cent see him as in touch with ordinary people, only 21 per cent believe he has the right plans for Britain.
