## Key points

- Michigan rallygoers said rising costs would not shift their support for Trump.
- They framed economic pain as temporary and defended the Iran war.
- MAGA voters’ approval was 95 per cent in a Fox News poll.

## Summary

Supporters at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, said high fuel and food prices and the war with Iran would not change their support for Donald Trump or their intention to vote Republican in the midterms. Their views matter as Republicans try to defend narrow majorities in Congress amid inflation, an unpopular war and historically difficult midterm elections for the party in power.

The article describes conversations with nearly 20 voters who defended Trump’s policies and often blamed current costs on temporary measures they considered worthwhile. A Fox News poll put Trump’s national approval at 36 per cent, his lowest in that survey, while self-described MAGA voters’ approval was 95 per cent. Voters cited confronting Iran, immigration and cultural issues among their priorities.
