The New York Film Festival has announced the 2026 Currents programme, a section devoted to films that challenge conventional narrative and cinematic form. Its centrepiece is the world premiere of Tala Hadid’s Bardi, while the selection underlines the festival’s emphasis on experimental, politically engaged and formally varied filmmaking.

The programme contains 15 feature films and 28 shorts, including works by Beatrice Gibson, Bruno Dumont, Carlos Reygadas and Tiffany Sia. Other world premieres include Éric Baudelaire’s For the Moon and a restored version of Fred Camper’s Suicide Note, while Mariano Llinás’s 330-minute Life of Jorge Luis Borges will also screen; Laura Poitras and Rachel Lauren Mueller’s short They’re Here examines clashes involving ICE agents and Minneapolis residents.
