New York police are hunting 31-year-old Jesus Acosta in connection with two fatal shootings carried out in separate boroughs just days apart. Investigators say he is responsible for a robbery-turned-murder at a Bronx deli, as well as a deadly shooting at a Brooklyn restaurant, raising concern about a gunman moving between neighbourhoods while armed and at large.

In the Bronx incident, a gunman shot a 33-year-old man multiple times in the chest at 149 Grill & Deli on East 149th Street early Tuesday before stealing cash from the register; the victim initially survived but later died in hospital, prompting a homicide investigation. Two days earlier, in Brooklyn, a shooting at a Rockaway Avenue restaurant left a 44-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound to the head and wounded a 39-year-old man in the leg, who is in stable condition. Acosta, described as 5ft 11in with brown hair and eyes and distinctive "Bronx" and "Bobby" tattoos, has not yet been apprehended, and police have released surveillance images while appealing for public help.
