## Summary

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani praised Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate victory in Michigan, saying it meant a great deal to many people. El-Sayed defeated former Republican representative Mike Rogers and is set to become the first Muslim US senator.

Mamdani said El-Sayed had faced heavy spending against him as well as racism and slander during the campaign. He argued that the election reflected voters’ demands for a lower cost of living and policies that benefit working people, and said Democrats must turn electoral gains into tangible change. He cited proposals including universal childcare, faster housing construction and a moratorium on data centres.
