## Key points

- A Melania Trump effigy hangs beneath a spider on an Upper East Side street.
- Creator Kevin Hyman says he made it for fun in about 20 minutes.
- The display has drawn both laughter and criticism.

## Summary

A five-foot Halloween effigy of Melania Trump, wrapped in a web beneath a large spider, has divided opinion on a residential street in New York’s Upper East Side. Its creator, Kevin Hyman, says he made it for fun and without a specific political message, though the display has prompted discussion among residents and visitors.

Hyman says he assembled it in about 20 minutes using a discarded mask he found five years ago, a toy spider and a cocoon. A sign reading “I REALLY DON’T sCARE” refers to the jacket Trump wore during a 2018 visit to a migrant detention centre; in her 2024 memoir, she said its message was aimed at the media. Passers-by have variously laughed at the display or called it disrespectful.
