NYPD searches for suspect who threw furniture at 90-year-old woman on sidewalk
New York police are hunting a suspect who threw a piece of furniture at a 90-year-old woman as she walked along a Brooklyn sidewalk, knocking her to the ground before he fled on foot. The attack, which was caught on surveillance footage, has drawn attention amid a series of recent assaults on elderly victims reported across the US, and comes as the NYPD works to identify the man and establish a motive.
The incident occurred at around 9:47am on Monday outside 501 Brighton Beach Ave in the Brighton Beach neighbourhood. Footage obtained by News 12 appears to show the suspect pushing what looks like a discarded baby crib filled with debris before lifting and hurling it at the woman as she passed, then walking away calmly. She was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island and listed in stable condition. Police have released a photo of the suspect, described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black trousers and white trainers, and are asking anyone with information to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline.
