## Key points

- Obama mocked Trump’s response to his White House décor joke.
- He said the Treasury Secretary was told to speak outside Cheesecake Factory.
- The remarks came at a Georgia rally for Democratic candidates.

## Summary

Obama’s Georgia campaign speech turned a joke about White House décor into fresh criticism of Donald Trump’s response and his administration’s priorities. The former president said Trump was more upset by the Cheesecake Factory comparison than by the reference to Saddam Hussein, and mocked the effort he said officials devoted to answering it.

Obama said the Treasury Secretary was asked to hold a press conference outside the restaurant, despite his role in addressing affordability and inflation. He also criticised Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and cited Trump’s planned ballroom, changes to the Rose Garden and gold decorations. Obama was campaigning for Senator Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms ahead of the 3 November election; Trump had previously called him a “lousy president” and “not smart”.
