Octopath Traveler Dev Not Ready To Announce A Third Major Entry Yet, But Is Aware Of High Expectations
Octopath Traveler developer Team Asano has said it is not yet ready to announce a third mainline entry in the HD-2D role-playing series, though it is well aware of fans' high expectations following the game's eighth anniversary. Speaking to Japanese outlet Dengeki Online, producer Tomoya Asano explained that after the strong commercial performance of the original title and the growing scope of HD-2D games generally, the studio feels it cannot afford to release anything "half-baked" and would need to make a genuinely ambitious follow-up.
Asano noted the first Octopath Traveler has sold around seven million copies to date, underlining the pressure on any sequel to match that success. Team Asano is currently juggling several other projects, including recently released The Adventures of Elliot, upcoming title Final Fantasy Resonance, and new content for prequel Octopath Traveler 0. Square Enix separately confirmed last month that Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 will be released on Switch 2 this October.
