Boutique sales company Odd Slice Films has acquired worldwide rights to "Concrete Land," the debut feature documentary from Palestinian-Jordanian director Asmahan Bkerat, ahead of its world premiere in Locarno Film Festival's Semaine de la Critique. The deal matters because it brings wider distribution to a personal, eight-years-in-the-making project chronicling the displacement pressures facing an Afro-Palestinian Bedouin family in Jordan, a story its director says she felt compelled to document to prevent their history being erased.

The film follows the Najar family, one of the last Afro-Palestinian Bedouin families living on the outskirts of Amman, as encroaching luxury villa development threatens their agricultural land and traditional way of life, forcing them to give up their animals and face eviction; it is partly told through the eyes of the family's 10-year-old daughter, Eman. The project received backing from international funders including the IDFA Bertha Fund, Sundance Documentary Fund, the Jordan Film Fund, Doha Film Institute and AFAC, and is produced by Bkerat and Ban Maraqa, with Jane Mote as executive producer and Sam Soko as creative producer. Odd Slice Films founder Martina Droandi said she had followed the project since 2021, describing it as a reminder that urban development is ultimately about the people whose histories risk being erased.
