## Key points

- Butler heard the song privately before its release.

## Summary

Olivia Rodrigo has released her first holiday single, “Take Me Home (4 Christmas)”, and Chris Butler, who wrote the Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping”, has praised it. He says Rodrigo captured a similar upbeat, irreverent spirit, and is happy for her song to be seen as part of the same Christmas pop tradition.

Butler said the songs share a “vibe” but are not plagiarised, responding to social media comparisons. He first heard the track after Rodrigo contacted him about two months earlier; initially unsure the message was genuine, he later met her after a concert. “Christmas Wrapping”, written by Butler and released in 1981, has grown from a cult song into a Christmas playlist staple.
