Omarchy, an opinionated Arch Linux-based distribution created by Ruby on Rails founder David Heinemeier Hansson, has gained substantial financial backing despite persistent criticism over its security and design choices. The newly formed Omacom Foundation has raised $10 million from technology figures linked to companies including Shopify, Stripe, Dell, Cloudflare, Dropbox and OpenClaw, signalling serious support for a project that is only just over a year old.

The release of Omarchy 4.0.1 fixes a security issue in the mid-August Omarchy 4 release, while the wider project now includes Ubuntu-based sibling distribution Omakub. Reviewers found Omarchy functional but unconventional and sometimes clunky: it uses a keyboard-driven Hyprland interface, requires custom update commands, includes unusual pre-installed proprietary and open-source apps, occupies about 14GB after updating, and uses roughly 1.5GB of memory when idle.
