Omar’s disclosures erased millions, leaving her with potential negative net worth. She won’t explain why

Fox News · 2 months ago

Republican-aligned outlet Fox News reports that Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota declined to answer questions about revised financial disclosures that sharply lowered the reported value of assets tied to her husband's business interests. The revision is significant because it cut the reported figures from potential millions to under six figures, raising questions about the accuracy of her earlier filing and, on the lowest estimates, implying she could have a negative net worth.

A 2024 financial report had estimated that Omar and her husband held between $6 million and $30 million in assets. A more recent 2025 disclosure put their shared assets at a maximum of $125,000, with a low estimate of $20,000 against debts estimated between $30,000 and $100,000, including her student loans and her husband's credit card debt. When approached by Fox News Digital and asked whether her husband still ran his consulting and wine businesses, Omar stayed silent. Her office had previously said the original filing was inaccurate and incomplete, and that she is "not a millionaire".

  • Omar's disclosed assets fell from up to $30m to under $125,000.
  • The revision could imply a negative net worth on lowest estimates.
  • She declined to explain the change when questioned by Fox News.
