Comedian John Oliver has begun a three-episode guest stint on the long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives", playing eccentric water inspector Devlin St. John. His first appearance aired on 11 August 2026, with the character striding into Salem's mayoral office to warn of a "literal sewage apocalypse" caused by a contaminated well, while also sparring with the villainous EJ DiMera and sparking apparent chemistry with his assistant Rita. The stunt casting follows Oliver's recent guest turn on rival soap "General Hospital", cementing his growing reputation as a scene-stealing celebrity soap star.

Executive producer Ken Corday told Vulture that fitting Oliver's scenes into episodes already filmed nearly a year in advance required behind-the-scenes reshuffling, but praised his dedication, noting he memorised roughly 60 pages of script for a two-day shoot. Oliver reportedly plays Devlin as goofier and distinct from his previous "General Hospital" role, giving him varied scene partners across the episode even as the show's usual intercut storylines continue elsewhere.
