On 30 August 1971, country singer Lynn Anderson reached number one on the Billboard country albums chart for the second time in her career with "You're My Man", 55 years to the day before this article's publication. The album's title track, written by her then-husband and producer Glenn Sutton, also topped the country singles chart, cementing Anderson's status as one of the era's most successful female country artists during a career that included five number-one singles.

Produced by Sutton, "You're My Man" spent seven weeks at number one, having replaced Charley Pride's "I'm Just Me" at the top spot. It leaned more heavily into pop influences than Anderson's previous album "Rose Garden", featuring covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" and Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through the Night". The title track itself spent two weeks atop the country charts and reached number six on the adult contemporary listings. Anderson, who died in 2015 aged 67, remains among the top ten best-selling female country artists of all time and was noted for several career firsts, including being the first woman to headline Madison Square Garden.
