The gathering featured the touring band, crew members, and local guests enjoying an evening of revelry that stretched into the early morning hours. According to guitarist Earl Slick's 2024 memoir, the scene included cocaine use and an atmosphere of uninhibited celebration typical of major touring acts of that era.

The party took an abrupt turn when armed individuals forcibly entered the suite with drawn handguns, ordering occupants to face the walls with hands raised. The sudden intrusion created panic amongst attendees, who were initially uncertain of the intruders' identities given their plain clothes and aggressive demeanour. Relief followed when it became clear the armed men were police officers conducting a raid. Slick's account notes the contrast between the perceived threat and the subsequent realisation of official authority, framing the incident as a notable but ultimately resolved moment from a celebrated musician's touring years.
