Operation Ivy’s Tim Armstrong & Jesse Michaels Join The Family Business LTD For Debut Album
Two founding members of influential 1980s Berkeley ska-punk band Operation Ivy have reunited as creative collaborators on a new album. Tim Armstrong, who went on to form Rancid and establish Hellcat Records, and vocalist Jesse Michaels are contributing to The Family Business LTD, following an earlier stalled collaboration that yielded only one single. This marks another instance of the longtime bandmates working together after performing Operation Ivy songs at benefit concerts in recent years.
The Family Business LTD brings together British ska heritage and contemporary artists under Armstrong's production. The collective includes Rat Boy, a Hellcat-signed UK artist blending ska-punk with rap; Samuel Preston of The Ordinary Boys; and Antonee First Class, who performs with The English Beat. The self-titled debut album, recorded over two weeks in 2023, aims to resurrect the two-tone ska sound of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The lead single "Floor Burner" features Armstrong on vocals and guitar, with the full album arriving September 25.
