## Summary

Oregon teacher Cassidy Schutz has made her first public statement since a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, saying the loss of those killed is a pain she will carry for the rest of her life. Her account follows the 15 October attack, in which police say she threw her phone at the gunman and wrestled with him for control of his shotgun.

Schutz said her thoughts were with those killed, their families, the injured and everyone present, and asked for time and privacy to heal. A 16-year-old former student opened fire in a classroom for pupils with special needs, killing teacher Megan Lambert, 25, and three children aged five, eight and 11; another teacher and a seven-year-old pupil were wounded. A parent, Kaylub Giamanco, shot and killed the attacker.
