Anders Colsefni, who served as Slipknot's original lead vocalist before Corey Taylor joined, has discussed his role in the band's early history in a new interview, reflecting on the making of the pre-Slipknot record "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." and expressing contentment with not being the frontman who brought the band mainstream fame. He described writing the material in a cramped, carpet-lined basement in Des Moines and defended the release as a fully realised album rather than a mere demo, given the time, money and effort invested in it.

Colsefni also revealed he is exploring the possibility of re-recording "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." with his current bandmates, having been unhappy with a 2024 version produced with New Zealand act Kaosis for the album's 30th anniversary. He said the original pressing ran to around 1,000 copies, possibly followed by a second batch of similar size, and that he is now investigating his legal standing after Corey Taylor and Shawn "Clown" Crahan sold Slipknot's catalogue to a new owner, adding he would like any re-recording made freely available rather than for profit.
