Outkast members André 3000 and Big Boi are suing California rapper and producer Silas Wilson, known as Ovrkast, for trademark infringement. They allege his name is “nearly identical” to Outkast and was deliberately chosen to create an association with the influential hip-hop duo, potentially confusing audiences and damaging their brand.

The lawsuit, filed in Atlanta federal court, claims Wilson agreed during private negotiations to change his name to “Overkxst” after receiving a cease-and-desist letter, but later refused to do so. Outkast’s lawyers cite Wilson’s previous admission that fans sometimes mistake Ovrkast for Outkast as evidence of actual consumer confusion. Wilson acknowledged the lawsuit on Instagram, while Outkast has previously pursued trademark action against the electronic duo ATLiens, a case that settled confidentially in 2024.
