Outrage after woke NYC mayor publishes map of ethnic neighborhoods that ERASES iconic Little Italy and much-loved ‘Little Ireland’
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has faced a backlash after his office released a map of the city's immigrant enclaves that omitted Little Italy and Little Ireland. The map, produced to promote the city's cultural communities, has drawn criticism from those who feel the exclusion overlooks the historic contribution of Italian and Irish immigrants to New York.
The map identifies around 30 immigrant neighbourhoods across the five boroughs, including Koreatown, Little Palestine, Little Bangladesh and Little Africa, along with the subway lines serving each. Reportedly released in May and sourced from the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, it forms part of a "neighbourhood passport" made available in libraries for tourists ahead of the World Cup. Critics voiced their anger on social media, while a City Hall spokesperson said the map was intended to help visitors explore the city's cultural communities and was not meant to be a complete list.
- Mamdani's immigrant-enclave map omits Little Italy and Little Ireland.
- Critics say it erases historic Italian and Irish heritage.
- City Hall says the map was never intended to be complete.
