Owen Thiele on Portraying Queer Friendship in ‘Adults,’ Working With Connor Storrie and Being a ‘Nepo Grandchild’
Owen Thiele discussed the return of FX comedy “Adults” for a second season, saying its cast had feared it would not be renewed and now hopes its small but committed audience will help secure a third. He said the new episodes address a significant kiss in unexpected ways, with twists that surprised him even while filming, and framed the series as a portrayal of relaxed, unspoken queer friendship.
Thiele contrasted his “Adults” role with George in Prime Video’s “Overcompensating”, which he said depicts a person seeking acceptance while uncomfortable with their identity. The 29-year-old is also due to appear in Molly Gordon’s film “Peaked” with Connor Storrie and Dua Lipa, and is writing “Off Color”, a semi-autobiographical Amazon comedy about growing up Black and gay in a white Jewish family; he described himself as a “nepo grandchild” of record producer Bob Thiele.

“Adults” is an FX comedy about a group of young friends trying to navigate work, relationships and adulthood in New York. Owen Thiele plays Anton, one of the central characters, alongside a cast that includes Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen and Amita Rao.
The programme places queer characters and friendships within its wider ensemble rather than treating sexuality as its only subject. Thiele has also become known for playing George in “Overcompensating”, another comedy with a different focus on identity and belonging.
