Former London's Burning actor John Alford, who died in prison weeks after being jailed for child sex offences, left an estate worth just £200, probate records have revealed. The 54-year-old, once one of the most recognisable faces on British television, died intestate at HMP Bure in Norfolk in March, with his modest assets to be shared among his family.

Alford, whose real name was John Shannon, played firefighter Billy Ray in ITV's London's Burning and had earlier appeared in Grange Hill and enjoyed a brief pop career with three top-30 singles. He was jailed for eight years and six months in January 2026 at St Albans Crown Court for sexually abusing two girls, and was found unresponsive at HMP Bure on 13 March; an inquest heard he died of coronary heart disease with no suspicious circumstances. His career had earlier collapsed after a 1998 "Fake Sheikh" tabloid sting saw him jailed for supplying drugs, though he later took smaller roles before his final conviction.
