## Key points

- Westchester County scanners were rejecting paper ballots.
- Unscanned ballots are being secured for later counting.
- Officials urged voters to stay in line and cast ballots.

## Summary

Paper ballot problems stopped voting machines across Westchester County, New York, from accepting ballots at polling places. The county Board of Elections said voters should continue filling in ballots and remain in line, assuring them that ballots unable to go through scanners would still be counted.

County Executive Ken Jenkins called the situation unacceptable and said county officials would monitor voting. He also promised a bipartisan review after the issues are resolved. Representative Mike Lawler said the problem might involve ballots being too thick for the machines, though the precise cause had not been confirmed.
