Paramount+ Officially Confirms Star Trek’s Future After Cancelling Last New Series

Collider · 4 hours ago

Paramount+ has confirmed that Star Trek remains central to its future plans, even though the franchise currently has no new series in production for the first time in over a decade. Both of the streamer's active Trek shows, Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy, are set to end after their next seasons, leaving fans uncertain despite the franchise marking its 60th anniversary this year.

Strange New Worlds is airing its fourth season and will conclude with a shortened fifth, while a potential follow-up has generated interest from cast and crew but has not been greenlit. Starfleet Academy was cancelled after one season, though an already-completed second season is expected to air next year, and the children's animated series Star Trek Scouts continues with a new season on YouTube this autumn. In an interview with Deadline, Paramount+'s head of original programming, Jane Wiseman, said the company remains "the home of Star Trek" and is working with writers and CBS Studios to determine the franchise's next direction following Paramount's merger with Skydance.
