Paramount+ Scored With Dad Shows. Now It’s Coming for the Ladies

The Hollywood Reporter · 2 hours ago

Paramount+ is overhauling its programming strategy to broaden its appeal beyond the male-skewing, Taylor Sheridan-heavy dramas that defined its early years, as the streamer seeks to attract more female and genre viewers. The shift comes under new leadership following Paramount Global's merger with Skydance Media, with head of originals Jane Wiseman steering a "female-forward" slate intended to expand the platform's reach while retaining lessons learned from Sheridan's success, ahead of Sheridan's eventual departure from the company in a few years.

Paramount+ currently has more than 81 million subscribers, trailing Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max, and new originals under this strategy are not expected to launch until early 2027. Recent pickups reflecting the pivot include the legal thriller "Discretion" with Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, true-crime series "Fear Not" starring Anne Hathaway, and a "Clueless" sequel featuring Alicia Silverstone, with direct-to-consumer chair Cindy Holland having flagged the female-focused push at Paramount's 2026 upfront presentation.
