Paramount’s Warner Concessions In UK Gives “Powerful Credibility” To U.S. Lawsuit, Says Anti-Merger Group
Campaigners opposing Paramount Skydance’s $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery say the commitments required for UK approval strengthen the case of 12 US state attorneys general seeking to block the deal. Block the Merger argues that if remedies were needed in the less concentrated UK market, competition concerns in the United States are more serious.
Paramount agreed to preserve the separation of its linear channels and streaming services, protect the editorial independence of news and children’s networks, and provide fair archive access. These five-year commitments include keeping Channel 5 News separate from CBS News and CNN International; the US case, which alleges harm to film distribution, blockbuster production and cable-channel licensing competition, is due for trial in March 2027.
