Pardoned House Dem back in the spotlight as brother faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted

Fox News · 1 month ago

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat pardoned by President Trump last year over bribery, conspiracy and money laundering charges, is once again facing scrutiny as his brother confronts a separate fraud case. Martin Cuellar, the sheriff of Webb County, Texas, is due at a court hearing over accusations of misappropriating county funds, and the family's close ties are complicating Henry Cuellar's bid for re-election in one of the most competitive congressional districts in the country.

Henry Cuellar had sought to draw a line under his own indictment — in which he was accused of taking nearly $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijan-owned energy firm and a Mexican bank — declaring after his pardon that he had "a clean slate" and would run again. His brother now faces up to 10 years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine, with prosecutors alleging he used sheriff's office employees and resources to run a private disinfecting business, Disinfect Pro Master, taking about $175,000 in illegal proceeds between 2020 and 2022.
