A Michigan sheriff has confirmed that a father shot dead his wife and six children before setting fire to their Grand Haven home, in what has now been formally classified as a murder-suicide rather than a fire-related tragedy. This clarifies earlier uncertainty over the sequence of events, establishing that gunshots, not the blaze, killed the family, and identifies the father as the person responsible for pulling the trigger.

Investigators recovered eight bodies in total from the burnt-out property: the two parents and their six children. Post-mortem examinations confirmed gunshot wounds as the cause of death for all victims, with the fire set afterwards.
