The parents of Skye Nicholls, a 23-year-old domestic abuse victim who took her own life, have spoken of their devastation, saying their lives have been "plunged into limbo" since her death. Miss Nicholls was found dead at her home in Lindford, Hampshire, in June 2023 after suffering controlling and coercive behaviour at the hands of her former partner, James Edwards, who verbally abused, threatened and told her to kill herself. Her father Andrew described the family as "broken", while her mother Ashlie said she mourns the future relationship and family they will never have. The case highlights the devastating and lasting impact of coercive control on victims and their wider families.

Edwards, 26, from Horndean, pleaded guilty to two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour and was jailed in November 2025 for two years and three months, later reduced to 21 months on appeal in February. Miss Nicholls' parents said the grief has affected the whole family, including her brother, who found her and continues to struggle with the trauma. Hampshire Police used the case to remind the public of support services available to domestic abuse victims, including Clare's Law, which allows people to find out about a partner's history of violence or abuse.
