Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is facing genuine pressure for the first time since taking charge in 2021, according to former Wales striker Iwan Roberts, after a poor start to the 2026-27 season. The club, who Parkinson guided from the National League to the Championship, lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham on Friday night, leaving them winless and without a clean sheet in four matches across all competitions this term.

Roberts praised Parkinson's past success but criticised his tactical rigidity, particularly a reluctance to abandon a back-three formation when chasing games late on. He pointed to long-standing defensive frailties, noting Wrexham had the sixth-worst defensive record in the league last season and conceded more home goals than anyone bar bottom club Sheffield Wednesday, a factor in missing the play-offs. Roberts also flagged concerns over an oversized 33-man squad, with Wrexham among the summer's biggest spenders yet still looking to add more players.
