Consequence’s review gives Pat McAfee’s debut album, The Diary of a Polarizing Figure, a D+ rating, arguing that it is neither sufficiently personal nor musically distinctive to justify its provocative title. The reviewer says its main point of interest is uncertainty over the role of AI in its creation, while its lyrics and vocal performances are criticised as clichéd, confrontational and unnatural-sounding.

Released on 14 August 2026, the album was developed with country producer ERNEST and released through the Big Loud network, reportedly after McAfee used AI music generator Suno to make song demos from lyrics he had written. ERNEST said McAfee was not a musician but had written lyrics for years; however, the publication said Big Loud did not respond to its request for songwriting credits, leaving the precise creative process unclear.
