Patreon is cutting 93 jobs, equivalent to 20% of its workforce, as it restructures despite the company saying its business remains strong. Chief executive Jack Conte said the changes are intended to reduce costs, flatten management and make the platform quicker to adapt, reflecting the growing effect of artificial intelligence on its operations.

Affected staff will receive 16 weeks’ severance plus one additional week’s pay for every year worked, medical cover until year-end and a laptop stipend; some will also receive make-good payments. Patreon says AI will not replace human creativity, but Conte has warned that the company must embrace it as a product and engineering business, even as Patreon restricts AI crawlers from collecting creators’ work while allowing search crawlers that can direct audiences to creators.
