## Key points

- He later appeared in several other comedy series and films.

## Summary

The article looks back at Patrick Stewart’s comic performance as Number One in “Homer the Great”, a sixth-season episode of The Simpsons. It argues that his trademark dignity and seriousness made the character’s absurd lines especially funny, showing a side of his acting that is often overshadowed by his dramatic roles.

Stewart’s appearance was only his second comedic role, following his Saturday Night Live hosting stint the previous year. Showrunner Dave Mirkin praised his commitment to the jokes, and Stewart later took comic roles in Frasier, Family Guy, American Dad, the Ted films and Extras.
