Patti LuPone’s Gay Cruise Ship Turned Away by Turkey: “I Am Furious, But I Am Sailing”

The Hollywood Reporter · 4 days ago

A Mediterranean cruise organised by Atlantis Events and operated by Virgin Voyages, carrying approximately 2,500 LGBTQ+ passengers, has been denied entry to Turkey. The voyage, which was scheduled to visit multiple ports including Istanbul and features entertainer Patti LuPone, has been barred by Turkish authorities who cited the composition of the passenger group as the basis for the decision.

The cruise is proceeding with alternative port selections. Patti LuPone announced the denial via social media, expressing frustration whilst confirming her commitment to perform for the passengers. Rich Campbell, president of Atlantis Events, described the decision as unprecedented, stating that in the company's 36-year history of operations, this marks the first explicit refusal of port access based on passenger demographics.
